Dom Art Projects presents, Unveiled, a solo exhibition by Kirill Makarov.
Digital technology no longer simply captures our existing reality, but can also generate a new reality from scratch. Images of armed conflict occupy a familiar place within this visual environment. While they appear to offer direct evidence of events, these images themselves have already been mediated: cropped frames, unstable perspectives, compression techniques, and other edits shape how real events are seen and understood. The resulting imagery can be almost indistinguishable from that found in video games and simulation software.
In Unveiled, Makarov reconstructs environments using photographs and videos found online. He removes these images from the speed and immediacy of digital circulation and subjects them to a deliberately slow, manual process. Each source is first translated into a drawing and then turned into a painting. Through this gradual passage from digital image to hand-drawn study, and finally to physical object, the original material is examined, altered, and reassembled.
Each painting bears the date when its source appeared in media, underscoring that the image represents not the event itself, but the form in which it entered public circulation. Moving between documentation and reconstruction, Unveiledexamines how certain images are produced, circulated, interpreted, and, ultimately, transformed into art.
