The institution’s identity and aspirations are reflected in its name. In Slavic languages, ‘dom' means both ‘house’ and ‘home’, while across the post-Soviet cultural landscape, the word has historically been associated with institutions for the production, exchange, and dissemination of knowledge and culture. In Arabic, ‘dom' means ‘always’, adding another layer of meaning: a sense of continuity, endurance, and lasting presence.
