Artist Talk: Antoine Renard
Dom Art Projects presents an artist talk with Antoine Renard, whose work INF-WELCOME:// DUNE.CODE (after Ousha Bint Khalifa Al Suwaidi) is part of Time That Grows Slowly.
Working across sculpture, sound, olfactory art, digital systems, and ethnographic research, Renard approaches language as a material system that can be fragmented, translated, coded, and experienced beyond its conventional forms. His practice explores how poetic language can move between different systems, from phonetics and computational structures to sound, scent, and physical matter.
During the talk, Renard will discuss the research behind INF-WELCOME:// DUNE.CODE, his engagement with the poetry of Emirati poet Ousha Bint Khalifa Al Suwaidi, and his exploration of language through AI-assisted translation and computational processes. He will consider how a poetic text can be deconstructed and reimagined through sound, scent, visual structures, and other sensory forms.
The discussion will also touch on Renard’s collaboration with students from Prof. Gulmira Abdukhalikova’s Mawhibaty programme, initiated by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture & Tourism. Prelude (after Ousha), the sound and olfactory performance presented earlier the same day, forms the first act of a fragmented opera project that will continue in Paris in 2026 and Turin in 2027.
Presented in dialogue with his installation in Time That Grows Slowly, the talk offers an opportunity to gain further insight into Renard’s interdisciplinary practice and his ongoing investigation of language, technology, cultural translation, and the senses.
